Promoting a circular economy through the sustainable recycling and upcycling of plastics in New Amsterdam
Promoting a circular economy through the sustainable recycling and upcycling of plastics in New Amsterdam
The proposed recycling project aims to encourage the recycling and upcycling of plastic waste in East Berbice (New Amsterdam to Lower Corentyne) targeting 300 kg of plastic. This project was designed to address the growing nuisance of the unsightly disposal of plastic waste in the New Amsterdam area and its environs. This will mitigate the disposal of plastic wastes into the environment. This will in turn assist in improving the aesthetics of the environment, as well as reduce associated health risks associated with improper garbage disposal and negative environmental impacts on biological ecosystems. Youths participating in the project will benefit from capacity building relevant to plastic waste management and operation of the plastic recycling machines as well as improve opportunities to earn income to support their educational development.
