Greening Cheparan and Lelen boreholes: Improved access to water for 600 Households in Kaplelwo Location, Mogotio Sub-county, Baringo County through switching boreholes operation from diesel to Solar Energy
1.1. Project Summary

The intervention targets Lelen and Kaplelwo communities in Koibosoi Location, Emining Ward, Mogotio Sub-County. , Baringo County. FSK will work closely with Government line ministries seek to promote pasture establishment and environmental conservation. This is aimed to resolve challenges identified in the target area on pasture production and losses. The project proposes to support the communities with brush cutters, hay bailers as well as construction of pasture storage facilities. The intervention is expected to be implemented within four months.

1.2. Summary of 1st project and relevant linkages.
Through support from GEF Small Grants Programme of the UNDP, Farming Systems Kenya implemented a climate change mitigation project titled, ?Greening Cheparan and Lelen boreholes: Improved access to water for 600 Households? in Lelen and Cheparan villages by switching Borehole operations from diesel to solar to eliminate Carbon emissions from the boreholes. Additionally, the project sought to improve knowledge and skills of Lelen and Cheparan communities on climate change. Through training on climate change mitigation, community members acquired knowledge and skills on re-seeding and land restoration through use of pasture establishment. Despite huge potential for pasture production in boosting community resilience during dry periods, a few challenges were noted. With the proposed intervention by FSK, the project will enhance efforts towards environmental conservation by reduction of soil erosion, rebuilding the ecosystem as well as restoration of environment quality by enhancing the sequestration of atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide.

1.3. Project Objectives and Expected Results
Primary objective
The overall objective of the action is to Build Community Resilience through Pasture Production for Improved income and Livestock feeds for 100 households in Lelen and Cheparan Community, Baringo County.

Specific Objectives
The specific objective is:
