Restoration of fish nurseries in the Port of Amshit
This project aims at installing artificial habitats (Biohut) in the fishing port of Amshit, to reinforce the nursery function of this coastal habitat, which historically hosts many species of juvenile fish, including the endangered dusky grouper Epinephelus marginatus. The process aims to restore the nursery ecosystem service by protecting young recruits from predation allowing them to reach "refuge size" and effectively contribute to the growth of adult fish populations. This artificial habitat is made up of a cage filled with substrate serving as a habitat (oyster shells) and one or more empty cages that provide a refuge area for young stages of fish against larger predators.
