Viver e conviver, gerando vida e resiliência na paisagem do alto Rio Poti no Piauí

This project aims to strengthen community organizations and their capacity to build and manage strategies that guarantee the socio-environmental resilience of the upper Poti River landscape, Piauí. To this end, it will develop a training and advisory process that contributes to the organization and functioning of associations, as well as the interaction of these organizations. It will develop, through collective construction together with community associations, strategic proposals that contribute to local socio-environmental development. It will include the construction of marketing and market access mechanisms. In addition, seeking to promote the creation of a network/forum/committee made up of representatives from each association/group, public authorities, Union and other entities that are considered important in the fight for strategies to strengthen associations and sustainable development in the landscape.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

This activity will continue following an advisory plan and when there are urgent needs or unforeseen circumstances, adjustments will be made to the plan to meet them. The meetings aim to carry out planning, address topics to assist decision-making such as creating strategies to strengthen the marketing of products; definition and creation of the interlocal network/forum to enable political advocacy within the landscape. Capacity - Building Component

Capacity building on Associativism/community organization: all beneficiaries of groups/associations, young people, women, elderly people and adults; External consultancy Capacity building on Storage and management of water use: for all beneficiaries, especially women as they are those who suffer most from a lack of water on a daily basis and young people to understand the importance of taking care of water; External consultancy. Inovative Financial Mechanisms

Resources are planned and budgeted for the creation of communication products/pieces comprising the following set of materials: 3 videos on mobilization and the training process; video about the implementation of environmental and productive actions in landscapes; project closing video. Graphic pieces: 3 banners (standard scientific conference size, with wood and string); Identification plate: 10 plates, one for each community. project identification stickers for motorcycles and cars (different sizes for each); Spiral notebook, with hard cover, adhesive. Radio spots (30 seconds). Production and broadcasting. Studio audio production service for recording spots and broadcasting on radio. Dissemination of the material on radio, internet. Card production for publication on the internet.

Policy Impact

Support social mobilization actions to defend the rights of populations and policies and programs for coexistence with the Semiarid region, ensuring the participation of farmers in articulation spaces; Creation of a permanent network/forum between associations and other entities, to strengthen and search for solutions, through viable public policies for the socio-environmental development of the landscape.

The project does not involve indigenous communities.

Notable Community Participation

The project will include protagonism, active voice and mainly the inclusion of youth in the construction of proposals and their involvement in the implementation of actions in the landscape, in order to provide this public with the opportunity to be agents in the process of socio-environmental development of the landscape.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The project's Communication Plan will be initiated and consolidated after the diagnosis stage. In general, the communication plan will consider the demands of the landscape and the specific demands of each group/association. Communication will enhance relationships and disseminate relevant information to society, contributing to the smooth functioning of the project. The aim is to mobilize young people around simple communication techniques and tools that can be used by them, to disseminate information about landscapes, from the young person's perspective and as an instrument for political mobilization, encouraging youth protagonism.

Gender Focus

Throughout the project, in all activities carried out, activities that promote female empowerment will be considered. During the training process, in workshops, meetings, planning... women will have a leading role. The implementation plans for socio-environmental projects will target actions that address women's desires, which may be: handicrafts, vegetable gardens, medicinal plants, chicken farming, seedling nurseries, fruit processing, access to water, improvement in commercialization of production, among others. This will further strengthen women's organization in the communities.
