The Establishment of the Fond St. Jacques Protected Landscape and Agro Tourism Park ? a Community Based Initiative
This project is located in the Upper Watershed of the Soufriere Watershed in Saint Lucia and will be transformative at many levels because it seeks to reduce environmental impacts by establishing new sustainable business opportunities in an ecologically sensitive area with high vulnerability. The overall goal is to establish a Protected Landscape (Agro-Tourism Park) and the objectives are as follows: (i) to establish and implement a capacity assessment system which will facilitate the continuous review of the human skills available and address any deficits while improving others; (ii) to develop and implement a capacity assessment system for all partners directly participating in the project and stakeholders with direct impact on the quality of the environment; (iii) to complete the establishment of all infrastructure required to meet the sustainable objectives of the park; (iv) to identify and procure the equipment required for the full operation and management of the site; (v) to develop and implement a marketing and promotions plan, which will sustain effective demands for the use of the site; (vi) to establish from project inception a project monitoring and evaluation system, which captures salient data and information for decision making and community learning; (vii) to bring together all the components of the management area into a compendium of management guidelines for review, approval and implementation and as a prelude to the preparation of a comprehensive management plan; and (viii) to establish an efficient project management office for project coordination and management. When successfully it will be Saint Lucia?s first Protected Landscape/Agro-Tourism Park.
