No Plastic Bottle in Public Library
The project on ?Preventing Single Use Plastics in Public Libraries ? Mumine Seremet Uyumayan Kütüphanesi of Bursa Yildirim Municipality Case? is planned to be implemented in Yildirim district, one of the largest districts of Bursa with a population of 657,994. Mümine Seremet Uyumayan Library, which operates within Yildirim Municipality, was selected as the pilot application area of the project. As of February 1, 2021, the library welcomed a total of 172,592 readers and it provides 24/7 service to its visitors with its 300-seat study area, computer research room, conference room, meeting room, cafeteria and exhibition area. In addition, the library serves as a cultural complex with conferences, talks and exhibitions. In addition to all these services, the library provides visitors with free water in plastic packaging. Developing an innovative solution that can create an ecological alternative to this service provided in the public library is the goal of the project. Specially designed system to be installed in the library ? No Plastic Unit and the use of flasks instead of single use plastics/PET bottles. 500 young people aged 15 and over who benefit from library services are determined as the target audience of the project. Young participants of the project will be able to follow the plastic reduction target they contribute through the flasks to be provided within the scope of the project and the meter on the No Plastic Unit. Thanks to the 2D barcode reading system on the flasks, young people will be allowed to register for the project and statistical data regarding their contributions to plastic reduction will be shared with them by e-mail on a monthly basis. Bulletins on climate change and the environment prepared by KAPSAM will also be delivered to young individuals within the scope of the project. In addition, a LED screen will be placed in the project application area where young people can access information about plastic pollution and climate change while filling their flasks via No Plastic Unit. Reports on project data will be based on data provided over 500 people. Individuals who use their personal flasks will also be able to benefit from the No Plastic Unit. They will also be able to access plastic reduction statistics via the meter on Unit No Plastic.
