Learning Entrepreneurship and Environmental Protection
List the environmental problem(s), issue(s), need or opportunity you wish to address.
Problem: The negative view that some youth and parents have about agriculture Opportunity: There is an environmentalist badge that youth involved in scouting. Scouts, and by extension, their families, and communities, can earn this badge through learning about sustainable agriculture, food security and environmental protection.
Describe the primary reasons for the environmental problem (s), issue (s), need (s), or opportunity you have identified. Many people today still see agriculture and ?working the land? in a somewhat negative light. Scouting involves youth in many outdoor activities and generally improves their physical health. This provides a great opportunity to link nutritional health and other benefits of plants to their activities in a structured way. This can help the youth and parents change this mindset about sustainable agriculture and the environment while scouts earn their environmentalist badges.
