Zero hunger ? zero waste from Municipality of Centar to Municipality of Shuto Orizari
Zero hunger ? zero waste from Municipality of Centar to Municipality of Shuto Orizari
As scouting organization, they often organize camps on the topic of social inclusion, where they always strive to provide the opportunity for children and youth with fewer opportunities to visit and join them and their activities. They have a strong cooperation with the Center for Street Children, which is located in the village of Shuto Orizari, so children from there often come to their camps. Since they have known each other for a long time, they also know their difficult economic situation, lack of food, hygiene products, poor education and many more. Following the priorities from the call, they came up with an idea how they, as scouts and socially responsible youth, can help their friends. The idea for the project - Zero hunger ? zero waste, is to connect a wedding restaurants located in Pintija neighbourhood, and the Roma children from the daily center in Shuto Orizari. After a conduct meeting with the restorants they received information that there is plenty waste of food. According to some internet portals, there are more than 40 wedding venues in Skopje. The problem of leftover food, especially in wedding restaurants, occurs very often because people order more than enough, sometimes in order to show off in front of the guests, sometimes in order to have as much variety of food as possible, and often they order more for any case, or the planned guests are unable to come. Since the restaurant for weddings works on the weekend, in the period from April after Orthodox Easter to October, they communicated with another restaurant located in M.Centar, which also wants to help by donating the excess food.
A large and significant part in this process is the transportation of food on this route, which is quite long and should connect the young people from the municipality of Centar, the settlement of Pintija - the municipality of Shuto Orizari and back to the municipality of Centar, which in kilometers is approximately 30 km. Activity 2 involves the purchase of a second-hand mini van that is allowed to be driven with a category B driver's license, which will have enough space for a refrigerator, air conditioners, to run on diesel or a combination of gas and gasoline, as the cheapest option. During the period when the van will not be used for the transport of food waste, it will be used for other activities in which the scouts are involved with the support of parents, such as transferring furniture to people who need it, disposing of bulky waste, electronic waste to companies that are also friends of scouts, such as Zero waste and other renting activities that will provide sustainability for the van.
