Food Unlimited -Security, Sustainability and Youth
Food Unlimited -Security, Sustainability and Youth
Problem: Food security is threatened in the Scotland District and worldwide logistics has threatened it even more. Problem: There is a dire need for beautification to uplift the staff and students in the Scotland District, with St. Elizabeth Primary being the most in need. Opportunity: There is an opportunity to increase food security and beautification by increasing the knowledge and experience of the children and community in the Scotland District about environmentally-smart agricultural practises for food security, beautification and sustainability for generations. We want our youth to be FUSSY about feeding themselves and having pride in their community.

2.0Describe the primary reasons for the environmental problem (s), issue (s), need (s), or opportunity you have identified.-Generally speaking, youth are encouraged to go to school, learn well and get a ?good? job. There is a trend to live in developments where planting food crops is frowned on and seen as a step backwards to plantation days. Parents say they do not send their children to school to play in the dirt. The mindset towards youth in agriculture can be very negative.-There is land slippage that makes agriculture more challenging because of the clay content of the soil in the Scotland District. Seasons of drought then heavy rainfall makes this a constant reality.-Covid19 and worldwide logistics has shown us that relying on imports is a fallacy. Using genetically modified seeds and crops will cause us to become reliant on external parties like the US where we already have a huge debt. It would be catastrophic if they also controlled our food supply by being the sole suppliers of seeds for produce.
