Be the Plastic Pirate
In the context of the need to increase the quality of the environment and the sustainable use of natural resources, considering the development of the national economy, and the increase in the quality of life of the citizens, waste management in the Republic of Moldova is carried out according to the model of the circular economy: extract - produce - consume - recycle/use - produce - consume ? recycle/use, etc.
Education is the first and most crucial step in bringing lasting change. Therefore, through this project, we do not propose to have a more responsible population and young people who, on the environment, will continue to share their knowledge and apply the theoretical skills they have learned, such as. live a more sustainable life, reduce waste, carbon footprint, set up separate waste collection systems and recycle them.
The main reason a large amount of waste ends up in landfills, in addition to infrastructure, is the lack of awareness among the population about how their daily activities affect the environment and how they can implement simple but effective solutions. Our aim is to involve schoolchildren, young people, and teachers in theoretical and practical waste management activities, exchange good practices and contribute to the stability of the foundations of sustainable waste infrastructures. Working in partnership with educational institutions and local authorities does not give you the advantage of sharing experience, knowledge and tools for an efficient implementation of sustainable solutions in Oxentea, Molovata and Holercani localities.
An important one is promoting cooperation between communities, which can grow beyond environmental issues. This will in turn trigger long-term changes in society. A more environmentally conscious younger generation leads to responsibility and innovation in future adult populations. Creating a simple system of separate waste collection in schools will prove its effectiveness, encourage other institutions and communities to do the same and trigger positive changes at local
and regional level, as local public authorities and business entities will see the benefits of waste recovery.
The organization of the National Campaign for the World Day of Cleanliness will promote the message of preventing the formation of waste, by reducing the number of plastic products used, but also collecting this waste that could be used and valuing the existing natural resources.
