Climate Action for Advocacy and Sustainable Development-CASUD
The proposed action will be limited to Port Harcourt and ObioAkpor Local Government areas of the state which is described as the metropolis.Fishing, farming, Oil and Gas are main occupation. At the 2006 Census, Port Harcourt has a population of 756,600 persons while ObioAkpor held a population of 649, 600, Ogu bolo about 450,000.Major environmental problems are Deforestation, Air Pollution, Resource depletion and inadequate environmental legislation. To address these challenges,the project seeks to increase climate action and conservation through nature based solutions especially tree planting and eco demonstration farms. It seeks to improve knowledge of target beneficiaries on climate advocacy, legislative advocacy, environmental protection and mainstreaming technology as evidence based approach to net zero achievement. It seeks to address the challenges posed by climate change through innovative strategies that includes baseline survey and Club governance. In -school youths, PWD and Out of school youths located in target communities will serve as the key drivers of this process for inclusion.
GOAL:To combat climate change and its impact, strengthen resilience, climate literacy and advocacy amongst women and youths in Rivers State.
ACTIVITIES: Conduct a baseline to ascertain impact of environmental degradation, develop an app to monitor and track air quality, design and produce climate action manuals to be deployed in all 8 centers for climate literacy, set up climate action clubs and eco champions in communities, train peer educators in schools and communities, media activities and advocacy, policy/ legislative advocacy for climate change act, research and publication of findings.
