Afio Primary School Land Degradation Management Project
The Afio Primary School Land Degradation Management Project is located on South Malaita, Malaita Province. Previously, the school was named as Maka Primary school but was recently changed to Afio Primary School. The project aims to reclaim a swampy area of an estimated 30,000 Square Meter which is a breading site for mosquitos and other wild life creatures. It was seen as an unwanted area. The objective is to reclaim the area and to put a new landscape which is more attractive and to improve health standards and quality learning environment for students at the school. Key activities include;
1. Raise walls
2. Back filing of swampy area with rocks, gravels, and soil
3. Improve biodiversity impacts including fencing
The expected outputs is Extension of land area for Maka Primary School and establishment of a propose Nature Park Model in Small Malaita Region
