Introduction of Solar Energy to Reduce Fossil Fuel Consumption in the Operations of the Soufriere Fishermen?s Cooperative Society Ltd.
In Saint Lucia, Fishers have always been categorised as part of the poorest socio-economic group in the country and they too contribute, though minimally to CC. We are therefore duty bound to work with them. This project is the output of a Planning Grant during which an Energy Audit was completed of the site and the solarisation system designed. The group is also aiming to use the savings from this project to establish a pension scheme for the fishers.

The project objectives are as follows: (i) to form a project Advisory and Supervisory Committees by month (2) of the project; (ii) to build capacity of the SFCSL for effective project management within the first five months of project commencement; (iii) to improve energy efficiency by month four (4) of the project
(iv) to Install one 25 Kw solar PV system at the Soufriere Fish Landing Facility within seven (7) months of project commencement; (v) to build awareness/cause behavioural change in staff, executive and board members and fishers through education on energy conservation by month six (6) of the project; and (vi) to develop a social protection system within nine (9) months of project commencement.
