Upgrading of the Solar Powered SMART FAD for the Sustainable Development of Fisheries in the South of Saint Lucia (Micoud to Choiseul).
This project is a CC project which fits within our Research and Innovation thematic area. The grant is seeking to automate the first Scientific FAD (Fishing Aggregate Device) with a remote control sub-system. The FAD will not only attract various species of fish, but will also give real time data on water temperature, Ph, salinity and species present. The system will also have a collision avoidance system to ensure that it is not accidently destroyed. Finally, the system will be able to communicate in real time via satellite.
The two objectives are to: (i) source and install self-controlled autonomous navigation software to create an unmanned FAD; and (ii) set planned routes and collection task points for real time communications.
