Reforestation and Soil Conservation through Agroforestry and Live Barrier Techniques
The primary objective is to implement reforestation and soil conservation measures Agroforestry
and Live Barrier Techniques that will assist farmers to practice more environmentally sustainable
options of farming. The project aligns well with the overall goal of vision 2030 as well as the GEF
SGP focal areas that will generate global environmental benefits.
The expected results are:
? Hectares of Land under Sustainable Management ? this will be done through planting of timber
and fruit trees on 3 hectares of land owned by 2 selected farmers who hold their land titles. An
agreement will be established with these farmers to use their land as demo plots for other farmers
to benefit.
? Increased Awareness and Capacity among Farmers ? this will be done through trainings,
workshops in areas such as agroforestry, soil conservation and irrigation through practical
demonstrations and techniques for soil conservation and planting of trees.
? Improved livelihoods Opportunities - through the agroforestry activities that will include
planting of fruit tree seedlings, pineapple plantlets as well as drip irrigation kits to ensure the
survival of the seedlings.
