Sea Turtle Beach Guardian Programme - Laamu
The project will protect culturally and naturally significant species of turtles, that are keystone species to
balance reef and seagrass ecosystems, and help protect beaches from erosion with nesting.
The project will include:
? Drone monitoring of Gaadhoo?s nesting beach, seagrass meadows and reefs in addition to
physical monitoring
? Drone monitoring of islands between Maavah and Kunahandhoo for poaching
? Targeted and general educational workshops to stakeholders on Fonadhoo and Maavah to
deter poaching
? Educational materials to deter poaching & celebrate turtles in Dhivehi
? Mobilizing community participation through a task-force of local authorities & law enforcement
