Rehabilitation of Tagabe River Management Area through Tree planting of Multipurpose and Indigenous tree species
The Tagabe River Catchment area is the only water source that supplies water for the growing population of the capital city of Vanuatu Port Vila on the island of Efate in SHEFA province. The watershed is facing threats for pollution from increase in population and hence expansion of Port Vila city and cattle grazing.
During Drier conditions affect the water sources and hence subject to contamination. The government and local authority leading initiative to protect the watershed for the urban water security. SPREP and the University of the South Pacific supported the initiative through their PACRES programme to restore forest within the watershed area. So the project is to motive and engage local communities and farmers within the Watershed proximity to participate in the restoration of vegetation within the watershed areas so to cover the huge land scape watershed areas.
