Enhancing food and nutrition security through smart agriculture and organic farming at Goenshari
The Othbar Mountain Horticulture Promotion(OMHP) Project has been working on organic farming for three years. The OMHPP was first started with the land Development on 4 acres of fallow land acquired from one of the farmers of the community. The OMHPP has employed 12 youths at initial stage in collaboration with Ministry of Labor and Human Resource. Then procured 200 seedlings of Kiwi from Nepal and planted. Now its third year and it had yielded around 300 kgs of kiwi. The kiwi is expected to hit the market by following year. The project is extensively focusing on producing organic fruits and vegetables. During the second nationwide Lockdown, the Punakha aggregator has supplied vegetables to the Punakha Dzongkhag.

The project has an experience in handling the agro-business. The project procured few numbers of brown Swiss for Farmyard manure production for organic farming. The project focuses extensively on organic farming. The project has experience in SMART farming for three years. The project has become one of the projects which attracts youths from different institutions and backgrounds to see the project and get motivated. The project has been serving as an epitome to many young educated youths in doing the farming. The project has become an epitome to many youths and farmers

The OMHPP as a member of the ALMC has the mandate to focus and produce according to the objectives of the OHMPP. The project?s primary objective is to produce sustainable quality organic products across the country at a reasonable price and also to plant trees and fruits to in the farm, forest and around watershed to preserve our pristine environment from the exploitations and to ensure sustainable water source in the community. By implementing the objectives practically with conviction is expected to reduce the import dependence of inorganic fruits and vegetables from neighboring country and ensure sustainable water availability in the community. The project is striving to work hard to become one of the premier entities as an example in encouraging youths to take up organic farming
