Building Women?s Capacity on Quality Tartary Buckwheat Production and Marketing in Nepal
The project aims to capacitate rural women on cultivation of quality Tartary buckwheat production and marketing of the product for local economic growth. The overall objective of the project is to capacitate women in high quality Tartary buckwheat production and marketing for local economic development. The project specific objectives are; to document the local knowledge on cultivation, processing and marketing of Tartary buckwheat, to improve awareness among local communities on nutritional quality of Tartary buckwheat grown with organic management, to train women farmers to increase yield and quality of Tartary buckwheat with farmers? practices and PGPR enriched organic practices and to explore the possible enterprise through increased linkages with market actors and consumer for promotion of marketing of high quality Tartary buckwheat at national level.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
- Awareness raising workshops will be organized at more than 10 sites. The workshop will ensure participation of farmers (Men and Women), entrepreneurs, school teachers, local representative (ward level) and palika level, media persons, organization working on food and nutrition security and government officers.
- Train 120 farmers through comparative trials at 15 different farmers? field to demonstrate the yield and quality of tartary buckwheat with PGPR enriched organic management and farmers? practices.
- Organize a NUS conclave inviting market vendors, hotel chefs, agriculture scientists and nutrition expert to explore the possibility of enterprise based on tartary buckwheat and other NUS crops at community.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Sharing of project case studies, success stories and result of field trials will be done through various workshops, result sharing seminars and meetings. Publication of communication materials and technical papers will be done at the end of project period. A conclave will bring out various opinions and information from participants who will be documented and shared after compilation and approval of donors.
