Bio-engineering intervention Demonstrations for Landslide prevention in Karnali province (BIDLSP-KP)
This project envisions developing ownership of communities in restoring, managing and maintaining
the degraded land for the benefit of disaster vulnerable communities and also for the biodiversity as well. The general objective of the project is to reduce the landslide risk and vulnerability of Aathabis Municipality by implementing Nature-based structural mitigation measures (Bio-engineering technology). The specific objectives are; To build the capacity of local communities and stakeholders in nature based structural mitigation technology, i.e., bio-engineering technology. To promote bio-engineering technologies by mobilization of local resources for the reduction of disaster risk and vulnerability. To increase the sustainable income of the poor and marginalized population by
introducing income generating species in bio-engineering intervention.

Project Characteristics and Results
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
Maintaining database of the project interventions and beneficiaries. Summary of the information, achievements along-with lessons learnt and success stories will be published and disseminated through report and articles in various electronic media. Such information will also be disseminated through web sources and web-based social networks. Articles will also be provided to UNDP periodic newsletter and other publications. Video documentary. Media visit; sharing events organized by the UNDP and others. This approach involves all the stakeholders in every instance of project activities.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Results of the project will be shared widely within the project LG, district, province through regular sharing of the project progress and achievements with the LG, district and provincial stakeholders. Joint monitoring and public hearing will also be organized to communicate with key local stakeholders. Likewise, sharing with other ongoing projects and programme will be conducted to explore the scalability of good practices in other areas as well. Local FM and Print media as well as social media (Facebook, twitter, YouTube) will be mobilized for the mass communication and youth campaign will be supported locally. Relevant information will be communicated through maintaining the website and also through social media. Project impact sustainability plan will be prepared and will be integrated with CBOs, FUGs and municipalitie?s plan in addition to other development partners? plan. Likewise, the final wrap up workshop will also support sustainability and replication of the project achievements. Further, through a mechanism of cross-project learning sharing, Rupantaran will play key role in the replication of successful models/best practices.
