Community Climate Change for sustainable solutions
Community Climate Change for sustainable solutions
The project seeks to enhance community knowledge on climate change, impact, effect, mitigation and adoption approaches to mitigate and sustain a safe environment for all. The various targeted communities in Montserrado County namely: Mount Barclay with sub communities (Cureysburg, Philip Farm, ) and Congo town includes four sub-communities namely; Oldroad, Gaye town, Chugbor, RC Lawson and Swankamore Communities. Many locals in these communities have little or no basic facilities to respond to their human resources capacity to mitigate climate change; limited latrine, unsafe drinking water, and limited empowerment opportunity for better livelihood. Many locals earn their living on petty trading, motorbike riding for young men and boys and street selling for women and girls while some also earn their living on backyard garden (Vegetables crops production) with few locals teaching community schools and managing mini shops, stores and hotels businesses. Every community has its own leadership with representatives from their respective community including young men and girls taking active role in decision making. The community sanitation control or management of waste is poor as many pedestrians and streets vendors dump wastes in streets and swamp while many poor households without land build zinc round in swamp for dwelling which are mostly affected by flood during raining season and water related diseases. Many complained of limited job opportunities and empowerment program and this has increase teenage pregnancies, school dropout, drugs and alcohol abuse resulting in human rights violations in the various communities. The Community Climate Change for Sustainable Solutions with empower locals and increase knowledge on Climate change mitigation, adoption and provide a sustainable solution to address issues that often affect the local people. The project will amongst other things provide awareness, training, campaigns, dialogues, meetings and other outreach and one-on one meeting with families. Radio and social media will be used to share messages of Climate change throughout the project period.
