Safranbolu Workshop
Pollution in oceans and seas is increasing day by day. As a result of the researches, it is proved that the size of pollution in the waters is increasing and it affects the marine life negatively. Marine pollution is a global problem. As the plastics industry, Operation Clean Sweep initiative on a global scale has been launched in order to prevent land-based plastic raw materials from being mixed into the seas. Whilst high environmental, safety and quality management controls are applied throughout the plastics industry, unintentional loss of pellets can occur at different stages along the value chain. This initiative, called the
?yi Süpürme Hareketi in Turkey, focuses on efforts to prevent the plastic pellets, dust and flakes spilled throughout the production, processing, transportation and entire plastic value chain in our country from being mixed into the waters and seas due to environmental factors and to recover raw materials. Spills which occur in closed areas with no possible route into the environment will be contained with this program. However, when spillages occur outside of a closed area, pellets may end up being washed down drains and into waterways before eventually flowing into the ocean. This can lead to severe environmental and social impacts. It is therefore important for all workers handling pellets to be trained to quickly react and take the appropriate measures in order to contain these spills. Pellets loading and
unloading operations account for the highest risk of loss at all stages of the value chain. Everyone working in the company, from top management to all employees, has to show determination to eliminate the loss of pellets, flakes and dust. In summary, the places where the pellet spills occur should be determined and precautions should be taken and the entrance to the channels should be prevented. That's why every segment of the industry, including resin manufacturers, shippers, plastics processors, commits to plastic pellet loss prevention as part of the Operation Clean Sweep.
