Sustainable Beekeeping Management
Sustainable Beekeeping Management
The importance of beekeeping as one of the approaches that can reduce the existing economic and environmental problems of rural areas in the world is increasing. In Turkey, on the other hand, it is seen that beekeeping activities have started to be addressed with their economic and environmental dimensions, but it is not enough.
The main goal of the project; in response to the negative effects of climate change on beekeeping and biodiversity; promoting beekeeping as an economic activity and contributing to the protection of biological diversity by disseminating sustainable beekeeping practices with innovative models.
During the preliminary phase of the project, we, as Balc?lar Agricultural Development Cooperative, met with Mu?la Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Mu?la Regional Directorate of Forestry, Köyce?iz Forestry Operations Department, MAYB?R (Mu?la Beekeepers' Association), and the loss of habitat and hive experienced with forest fires in Mu?la Region. It has been revealed that there is an urgent need to develop application models that will provide economic benefits to beekeepers while supporting the ecosystem. As Köyce?iz Balc?lar Agricultural Development Cooperative, we established in cooperation with Mu?la Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Directorate, Mu?la Regional Directorate of Forestry and Köyce?iz Municipality, with the closed basin beekeeping practice in cooperation with the local people in the Income Generating Afforestation and Honey Forest covering an area of 700 decares; to create a pilot model in beekeeping in which biodiversity and the local bee population are protected, and nature-friendly bee products are brought to the market through cooperatives and the level of economic income is increased.
