Mai-Ma'asina Green Belt Supporting Community Conservation through Protected area programming, community institutional strengthening and sustainable livelihoods
The project is about supporting communities on Malaita who are involved and interested in conservation and sustainable development. It will be implemented and managed by the MMGB who are a locally recognized NGO with membership from community conservation groups.
The project will involve
1. Capacity building - training of rangers on how to manage their resources sustainably
2. Conduct baseline survey on biodiversity from mountain ridges to coastal and marine areas;
3. Conduct GIS mapping of tribal land and land use plan for the members
4. Conduct training on kava and honey for members as part of livelihood initiative
