St Luke Community Faea Water Project
St Luke Community Faea Water Project
Faea District communities in Tikopia of which St Luke community is a part of has been experiencing water shortages since 1995. By the year 2002 after destruction of Tikopia by cyclone Zoe there?s been severe water shortages as the volume of water from Teputa water source significantly decreased due to climate change and increase in population as St John community being in Ravenga District also began to draw water from Teputa water source. To date, the problem has worsened and women and children on a daily basis walk several kilometers with buckets and water containers to fetch water for cooking and drinking. The pipe stand taps that used to deliver water into households from the 1980s to the early 1990s no longer deliver water and stand idle today within household premises.
The aim of this project is to seek funds to build three (3) water storage tanks within the vicinities of three water sources namely Teputa, Tafanupu and Raraufau water sources connecting the three waters sources and pipe or supply water to St Luke and 4 neighboring communities namely St John, St Mary, St Michael and St Barnabas communities.
