Navola Water System Project
Basically, the project seeks financial support from the Small Grants Programme (SGP) to assist the Navola Community to procure tanks for safe drinking water and solar power to pump water from the tanks to every household. This is a need for the community since Navola Community is located in East Guadalcanal where the Guadalcanal Provincial Plantation Limited (GIPPOL) is located and also the mining company (Goldridge). Every month throughout the year GIPPOL discharge chemicals- fertilizers, grass killer and leakage of oil and fuel in the oil palm plantation. Every quarter throughout the year, the mining company discharge treated cyanide into the Saora River, which is just a few metres away from Navola Community. Almost 90% of the Navola and Vasakiki Community depend on Saora River for many purposes. Hence, the proposed action is designed to improve the access to safe and reliable water source.
