Supporting neem seed collection and oil processing value chain as a response to building women resilience and adaptation to climate change, biodiversity utilization and COVID-19 recovery initiative in the northern savannah regions
This project is considered as part of the community resilience, climate change adaptation and COVID 19 economic recovery initiative in the northern savannah. The project seeks to upscale and develop neem value chain to benefit more women and youth in the savannah landscape for biodiversity conservation and landscape restoration It involves mobilizing and training women in organic collection of Neem seeds and processing them into essential oil for the domestic and international markets. The main beneficiary communities are Kukua, Gbani, Kpabgu, Tinguri and Zanguga.
The main project activities will involve community consultations, organizing women into trust groups and multistakeholder platforms and training them in organic collection and processing of the seeds to meet international standards; procuring and installing neem oil processing machinery, utilizing the neem oil cake to produce organic manure, establishing neem tree nurseries for agroforestry farm development and protection of Neem trees in parklands and packaging materials to meet market demands.

Introduce women smallholder farmers into integrated neem agroforestry utilizing the neem oil cake as organic manure to produce vegetables.
Expected Outputs
Output 1: 500 women mobilized and organized into trust groups of organic neem collectors and processors.
Output 2: 100 women smallholder farmers supported to invest in agroforestry farming system to produce food and grow trees.

Gender Focus
500 women trained on need seeds collection, transporting and storing and trained on need seed oil processing, packaging and marketing. Women would be supported with training and need collection and safety tools
Notable Community Participation
Gender equality is considered very important as part of the success of the project and therefore is properly taken care of at every stage of the project-from the design stage to implementation. The project is designed to empower young women who are involved in the collection and processing of Neem seeds, Oil and marketing.
