Synergistic Innovation Practice of Low-Carbon School and Low-Carbon Park in Yucai Primary School, Chengyang District, Qingdao
Baseline Information:
In December 2022, the Shandong Provincial Committee and Government issued the "Three-Year Action Plan for Building a Green, Low-Carbon, and High-Quality Development Pilot Zone (2023-2025)" in Shandong Province. In November 2022, Qingdao City implemented the "Implementation Plan for Building a 'Waste-Free City'" and advocated a lifestyle and mindset that emphasizes simplicity, green and low-carbon living. This plan specifically highlighted waste classification and recycling as crucial components in promoting green, low-carbon development, enhancing grassroots modern governance, and creating a "waste-free city."
Chengyang Primary School, established in 2021, became one of the first pilot schools for the "Low-Carbon Kitchen Waste Composting and Recycling Project" in Chengyang district. In collaboration with YiQiFen, the school embarked on a "Zero-Waste Campus" exploration, which included establishing a comprehensive recycling system involving all classes and implementing a low-carbon kitchen waste composting system with five cubic meters capacity.
The proximity of Qingte Group Co., Ltd. to Chengyang Primary School resulted in a shared living ecosystem between the factory employees and the school community. This close relationship fosters mutual trust and support for low-carbon living. Qingte Group believes that a sustainable, low-carbon future can be achieved through education. Therefore, they are willing to support Chengyang Primary School's low-carbon campus construction by sharing their experiences and providing funding for building a low-carbon educational environment. The company aims to enhance the educational functions of their low-carbon campus and open up the area for students to engage in green, low-carbon scientific and educational practices.
Main Problems:
Chengyang Primary School, converted from a factory building, currently lacks sufficient ecological development, resulting in high energy consumption and carbon emissions. They hope to undertake green and energy-saving transformations to reduce carbon footprint.
Constructing a low-carbon school requires professional guidance, and Chengyang Primary School looks forward to leveraging this opportunity for such development.
While the school has been proactive in low-carbon environmental courses and practices, there is a lack of systematic planning and scientific design. They aim to create a green and low-carbon practice scenario that involves schools, families, communities, and society, aligning with the requirements of the Ministry of Education's "Implementation Plan for Building a Green and Low-Carbon National Education System" and local practices.
The local government intends to support collaboration and innovative practices between low-carbon schools and eco-friendly campuses, encouraging various departments to jointly develop relevant standards.
Activities:
Activity 1: Introducing low-carbon facilities in both old and new school areas and implementing green and low-carbon development principles, thereby optimizing campus energy management.
Activity 2: Conducting training for teaching staff, developing and implementing school-based low-carbon curricula, organizing campus practical activities, and promoting low-carbon practices among families.
Activity 3: Establishing the "Low-Carbon Sustainable Development Alliance," summarizing and promoting experiences in low-carbon school construction, and advocating for the development and improvement of standards related to "Low-Carbon Schools" and "Eco-Friendly Campuses."
Anticipated Outcomes:
1.By introducing low-carbon facilities in both old and new school areas, the project aims to achieve continuous reduction in energy and resource consumption and carbon emissions, thus reducing carbon emissions at the source.
2.A team of specialized teachers will be equipped to provide green and low-carbon education, and a set of school-based low-carbon curriculum materials and activity plans will be developed. As a result, participants' awareness of low-carbon environmental protection will continue to improve.
3.The establishment of the "Low-Carbon Sustainable Development Alliance" will facilitate multi-faceted collaborative mechanisms. The promotion of experiences in low-carbon school construction will lead to the formulation and refinement of standards for "Low-Carbon Schools" and "Eco-Friendly Campuses" in a comprehensive manner.
