Building Resilience for Communities Through Improved Irrigated Rice Paddy Feld with Participatory Approach.
Savannakhet Province is one of the most affected area in country in year 2018 and 2019 from severe flooding, especially in agricultural sector. Nongdern village, Songkhone district is one of the affected area which is lost 100% of rice paddy, the second damages and losses is irrigation system that has been affected severely as results of flood that caused by extreme climate change. Therefore, the villagers cannot practicing rice cultivation in the rainy season as frequent flood. Hence, irrigation would be the best way for them to produce rice. At present, villagers just utilize the temporary irrigation which is insufficient for households. There was established the Water Use Group (WUG) in village but does not proper function, it needs to empower through series of trainings on how to manage water allocation and be able to maintain irrigation system properly. The project aims to support on strengthening the capacity of WUG to be more effective on the use of canals and improving their ownership of irrigation, facility management through participatory approach. Participatory small-scale renovation approach will contribute to increase irrigated area and reduce irrigation water loss. Villagers will utilize their skills that learned from the project to increase irrigated area in the future by themselves.
