The Numhung Wetland Management for Sustainability of Thin Village, Xaiyaboury

Thin village located in the center of Xaiyabouly district, Xaiyabouly province with 360 households. Nam Hung is the main river for used in production of agricultural, the problems arise in the rainy season with flooded up to the dry season, water depletion, water shortage could have affected to fish, shrimp, and biodiversity. most people living by fishing and fish become extinction without conservation; Farmers cultivate livestock in a spread manner, using chemicals in agricultural production, growing vegetables without quantity and quality, because planting still the primary source of income, the bank erosion make Nam Hung shallow and dry up. So, it makes unsustainable fishing and about 70% of women are subsistence farmers. The project aims to be a model and lesson learn to many people in surrounding villages and in other areas can be used as a model on the implementation of how importance of the upstream forest and biodiversity conservation in Nam Hung in long-term benefits, and it will be the starting point for people to develop and conservation wetland which will lead to the sustainable development.
