Restoration of Degraded Kneisseh Mountain For Threatened Endemics and Community Rewards?
This
project aims at preserving the Mount of Kneisseh, FON will develop the old footpath on Mount
Kneisseh into a hiking trail and connect it to another footpath down to village Kfarselwan;
informative signs will promote the importance of the site and alert to staying on the trail. 10 local
community youth will be trained to develop the trails with us. To generate benefits to the
community and develop new sources of income, FON will undertake a plan of visitations with
hiking agencies to introduce them to the trail and lead the visitors to the village where 10 local
ladies would have prepared homemade food, coffee, etc., and displayed homemade products (jam,
marmalades, vegetables?). FON will prepare 10 hiking trips at least and promote the visits on
social media to encourage others to visit. A documentary will expose all the activities of the project
and the value of the site to the general public. Youth, authorities, and NGOs of the nearing 5
villages will be invited to the activities to network and demonstrate the benefits of communitybased
restoration and protection. The Women Association of Kfarselwan will be the local
reference and owner of project benefits after the project ends.
