Empowering Small-Holder Farms for Preventing Desertification and Enhancing Livelihoods through Soil, Water and Agro-biodiversity Augmentation
Empowering Small-Holder Farms for Preventing Desertification and Enhancing Livelihoods through Soil, Water and Agro-biodiversity Augmentation
The main objective of the project is building climate resilience by improving adaptive capacities of the smallholder farms to mitigate the effects of climate in the identified villages engaged in rainfed farming mainly to address the issue of land degradation and desertification. Specific emphasis will be given for soil and water conservation. The project will be implemented in 500 acres involving 500 farmers @ 1 acre per farmer to establish the model. The project will be implemented in the CBO platform mainly to ensure the sustainability of the initiative. The integration of tree Plantation in the project will not only increase the tree cover in village but also plays a dual purpose of providing food and income to households at a later date. It will increase the micro-climate and reduce the impacts of climate risks to some extent. The identified and proven strategies and mechanisms will be replicated in future. The yield of the principal crop will increase by 25% and income by 30% as a result of the interventions.
