Supporting landscape level coordination through the use of existing Ward Assembly structure of the ward development committee for effective stakeholder collaboration, resource use efficiency, and effective inclusion of vulnerable members in decision making. ? To uphold the learning and doing focus of the resilient landscapes Project, small holder farmers and stakeholders in the landscape should be exposed to learn from others, from other communities and countries, while at the same time hosting other guests who come for learning and sharing ? Planned community grazing, fodder improvement and animal health management offer great potential and opportunities for this landscape for effective recharging of underground water ? Upscaling the agroecology (AE) practices and nature positive interventions already practiced by some households in the community, has the potential for more traction and adoption by more community members at landscape level ? The project will create more awareness raising and training of stakeholders and the community leaders on the key values of resilient landscapes so that there is mutual understanding and consensus building from the start. ? Land Use planning and resource governance are critical for effective natural resource use and management in the landscape area. There is a gap within the community on resource and landscape governance hence there is need for Capacity Building on resource and landscape governance ? Integration of GBA+ approach is key in the full project life cycle of the community resilient landscape project to cater for the identified gender identities that have positive or negative impact to the successful empowerment of women, girls, youths and other vulnerable groups within the landscape. 9. The project will support marginalized households with aquaculture/fish farming projects. The Chanhuwa area has a potential to up scaling community livelihoods base once supported with income generating activities. The project seeks to identify 20 vulnerable households in terms of livelihoods base, and the selected households will be trained on fish farming as a business. The training will cover the value chain of fish farming from first input supplier to the final user/consumer. It has been observed that, community?s skills on marketing, and record keeping will be enhanced which will further help farmers to market the already existing crops that they have. Furthermore, there is a projected positive outcome in terms of community nutritional benefits. The livelihood project of aquaculture that will be supported by the project to communities will be acting as an incentive to what they have been doing. Communities will be focusing on landline design activities which will be the restoration of land, recharging of underground water, hence once streams have Enough water, communities will conserve that water and use it in Fishponds. Therefore, the livelihood base for the community is expected to grow. At harvest time, communities will use water from Fishponds to irrigate their households' micro gardens. Water from Fishponds is rich with nitrogen which is very essential for crop growth and yields, hence in terms of food security the communities will be self-dependent. Through reclamation of gullies, in community and gullies along community minor roads, it will be easy for communities to transport their produce to the market, and even importation of inputs from Grain marketing board to community crop Fields. There are reported cases in the village of cattle which perished after an attempt to cross a huge gully in grazing sites. This is one of the targeted gully to be reclaimed hence there will be no such incidents and livestock will be safe.

They are the future, they are energetic and can contribute significantly to activities that require energy such as key landline structures, fish ponds, check dams, swales, etc. They can form champions and facilitate in their respective villages. Since most youths are more inclined to short-term cash-based livelihood activities, opportunities exist in engaging them in income-generating projects such as apiculture, horticulture, aquaculture, etc. They can work and advocate for nature-based solutions since they have the capacity to do so and they have access to different youth platforms which they can use to advocate and act toward nature-based solutions as compared to any group of people.

Women: Women are the majority in most communities. They have for years been custodians of seeds. They are the ones involved in the harvesting of non-timber forest products such as herbs, mushrooms, wild vegetables, and fruits. They can therefore contribute to their sustainable utilization and value addition. Women have time to meet and talk with peers e.g., at water sources hence they can easily spread key awareness messages on environmental management and are usually the ones responsible for the household food security. Women depend more on the natural resources that are at threat, for example, they are the ones responsible for fetching firewood, and water for domestic uses which nature-based seeks to protect and use sustainably. They are the ones who usually till the land whilst in some cases husbands are working in towns. Women form part of 70% of most of the community meeting and community development work and they make so many daily decisions as far as farming is concerned at the household level and empowering them with resources and knowledge can contribute to more sustainable ways of farming and conservation ways. Women headed households: This group of people is more independent and they react fast at any given time. They can act as early adopters of nature-based solutions and can be used as references to speed the adoption of landscape activities. Elderly women: Elderly women are the ones responsible for leading cultural rituals like rain-making ceremonies or maintenance of natural springs. Their participation in these ceremonies means that they continue to attach importance with regards to grains of traditional and cultural value (e.g., finger millet and sorghum), hence influencing the production and saving of small grains. Elderly women also participate within the Madiradunhu group during rainmaking ceremonies, beer brewing in sacred places and are involved in other cultural activities and assist in environmental protection (water source cleaning). These are custodians of indigenous knowledge and they are respected and contribute to key decisions especially with regards to cultural rituals. Elderly men: They are usually regarded as advisors in the community and village heads court. They have the indigenous knowledge and can play a critical role in sharing this knowledge. This group is knowledgeable about the resources, governance, customs, and values that can contribute to the conservation of resources. This group has the history of society and is a powerful group towards the nature-based solution. They are rich in indigenous knowledge and traditional ways which might be important and which can be borrowed to push towards NBS. They also play a key role in supporting the village heads, headmen, and chiefs in the formation and enforcement of the traditional by-laws. Elderly men are mostly composed of the royal guard (Machinda aMambo) for traditional leaders. They help the traditional leader deal with reported cases (kutonga nyaya) at the village or community court, etc.
