The RE Initiative ? Reconnecting to the Environment:- Addressing the Spiritual & Ethical Roots of Environmental Problems
The project involves addressing the spiritual and ethical roots of environmental problems. Caring for nature and understanding the role we as humans play in preserving the environment is not automatic, it involves learnt behaviour that correlates directly with spiritual development and growth. The project will seek to create spaces around the school where students not only learn how to become good environmental stewards but see it in practice and engage in it. The objective of the project is to create green spaces on the Aquinas College campus and expand the Aquinas College vegetable garden.
Expected results include: 1. 100% of Aquinas College students are aware of humanity?s common origins of creation and the effect of human actions on the environment 2. Increase the amount of green spaces on the Aquinas College campus and the more effective use of green spaces. 3. All CBE teachers are able to effectively communicate to and help students recognize the place of human beings within the larger picture of creation and alter actions which can potentially lead to ecological devastation.
The target site is Aquinas College School located in Nassau, The Bahamas. The communities involved are students and their families and teachers.
