Restructure of Landscapes Seascapes after Earthquake
This project will be carried out in the districts of Antakya and Samanda?, located within the borders of Hatay province, which have been directly affected by the earthquake. As part of the project, the biodiversity, ecosystem management, and socio-economic structure of the Asi Delta and its surrounding areas, Samanda? coasts, and the Mileyha Wetland, which is home to more than 300 bird species, will be evaluated. Ghost crabs (Ocypode cursor) and green turtles (Chelonia mydas), which are among the target species of the project and are protected by the CITES Convention, are also distributed along the Samanda? coasts. Cartilaginous fish species such as the longtail stingray (Gymnura altavela) and the painted ray (Rhinobatos cemiculus), which are high-priority conservation status on the IUCN Red List, are also present in the marine area near the coastal sand dunes. Establishing an ecosystem-based approach in the construction of terrestrial and marine landscapes will contribute to the preservation of the region's unique biodiversity. In this context, strategic action plans for the study areas, species action plans for protected species, and an area management plan that will absorb the above-mentioned reports during the reconstruction process of the terrestrial and marine landscapes are planned to be prepared. Active participation of
local people, civil society organizations, cooperatives, and other stakeholders will be ensured in all of these reporting processes. In addition to the participation of local people and stakeholders, this project aims to attract the attention of children and young people aged 14-18, living in the earthquake zone. Encouraging nature and bird watching in the field with nature observation camps is aimed to contribute to the learning of natural processes and spending time in nature by children and young people. All kinds of visual materials collected during the project will be presented to followers through social media. In addition, a documentary that reveals the current situation of the region with the perspective of the project and demonstrates the project identity we have created will be prepared.
