Combating Environmental Pollution and decreasing Land Degradation
Combating Environmental Pollution and decreasing Land Degradation
The project aims to educate and engage 300 farmers, with 50% of them falling into the youth category (between 20 and 40 years old) in the principles of preserving agricultural soil and water resources. This involves transforming waste from over 500 acres of banana and cumin crops into organic fertilizer. Additionally, 100 farmers, including those handling post-harvest processing for cumin, are encouraged to increase their income, apply fair trade concepts, reduce intermediaries, and provide employment opportunities for women in the targeted areas. Furthermore, the project seeks to enhance the capacity of 50 young women, aged 21 to 35, in post-harvest processing for cumin crops to secure future job opportunities for them.

The project will focus on several initiatives to preserve soil quality and prevent water pollution by ensuring safe disposal of banana waste and other agricultural residues. Additionally, the project will create 50 employment opportunities for girls and women by establishing post-harvest processing units for the cumin crop, utilizing the residues after screening and sorting to produce organic fertilizer. It aims to build a culture and awareness within the community regarding the importance of using organic fertilizers and the risks associated with unsafe disposal of agricultural residues.
