Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
1. Replant vegetation in deforested areas around the Parafuso River ? A seedling nursery will be built for the association to produce seedlings to plant native vegetation. The nursery will be installed collectively using material found in the community itself and will have 70% transparency and will be 3X5m in size; 2. Establish a collective apiary ? The apiary will be established in an area close to the river where there is the most abundant flowering. The management will be carried out by the group of beekeepers. The acquisition of 25 langstroth hives with project resources. Site preparation and management will all be carried out collectively. 3. Implementation of tanks for fish production throughout the year ? The tanks will be of the compacted clay type, considering that the settlement has clayey soil with low infiltration, during the rainy season they will be supplied with rainwater and in the dry season they will be supplied with replacement with river water pumped by solar energy. In the tank area, a community garden will be set up to use fish water, which will undergo a filtration treatment process before releasing it to the plants. This filtering already exists in the region in systems developed by EMBRAPA. 4. Capacity building ? Training will be carried out through workshops, courses and exchanges. All training will be carried out by people with experience in each topic and aimed at all beneficiaries. 5. Parafuso River Water Week ? This event will be held in March during National Water Week. Lectures, workshops and cultural entertainment will be held, valuing regional culture. 6. Establishment of space next to the association's headquarters to store equipment and carry out collective activities in the settlement ? This space will be built with material purchased in commerce and in return from the community. 7. Construction of the association's headquarters - The construction will be subsidized by the project, the construction material and labor of the helpers will be a counterpart; 8. Search for a market for the settlement?s family farming products ? Meetings will be held with other organizations and public authorities to seek to include family farming products in school meals. 9. Implement a solar energy generation system with capacity to generate 800kW/month ? the implementation of the solar energy system will be carried out through a specialized company and contracted at the lowest price quote. The installation will be installed on the roof of the existing flour mill in the settlement. It will be the first implementation activity of the project.
