Capacity Building Training for Local NPOs in Environmental Conservation
ORG?s proposed capacity-building program aims to empower 50-60 leaders from 20-25 Bahamian Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) that address issues such as environmental conservation; help local communities to adapt to the impacts of Climate Change; and build reliance to natural disasters to enhance their organizational sustainability and effectiveness. The program consists of three integral components.
In the Assessment and Development phase, participants will conduct an organizational self-assessment to pinpoint priority areas for targeted training, ensuring the content is highly relevant and impactful.
The Training component, spanning seven days across seven months, will focus intensively on vital areas for organizational sustainability including fundraising, leadership, project management, monitoring and evaluation, advocacy, financial reporting, and practical collaboration skills. This component will be hosted at The American Corner within the Harry C. Moore Library at the University of The Bahamas. This choice of venue, generously offered by the United States Embassy in Nassau, enables both in-person attendance for those in Nassau and virtual participation for leaders situated on other Bahamian islands. To incentivize participation and foster informal networking opportunities, coffee and lunch will be provided during the training days.
In the Evaluation and Reporting phase, participating NPOs will complete a post-training survey one month after program completion. They will share insights into relevant topics and provide examples of how newfound knowledge benefits their organizations. Participants will also have the chance to suggest improvements and future capacity-building topics. ORG will compile this feedback into a concise report to be shared with the funders, government, and the public.
Expected outcomes encompass strengthened fundraising capabilities, improved leadership and governance, increased advocacy for climate change adaptation, contributions to disaster risk reduction, enhanced monitoring and evaluation practices, greater collaboration among environmental NPOs, and heightened capacity for resource acquisition and engagement with government agencies, particularly in times of crises such as hurricanes.
This program seeks to empower local NPOs to be more resilient, effective, and impactful in their critical work of preserving the environment and addressing pressing issues of climate change and natural disasters in The Bahamas.
