Creation of a municipal nursery for growing zoned species of trees and shrubs in Ceadir-Lunga
The level of afforestation in the Republic of Moldova is just over 11% of the territory. In Gagauzia, this figure fluctuates around only about 5 ? 7% of the territory. Existing forest plantations are aging, cutting down and crowning of emergency trees is increasing. Due to rising energy prices, cases of illegal tree cutting have become more frequent, which further aggravates the situation. In mun. Ceadir-Lunga landscaping is a priority in the activities of local authorities. This year, the mayor's office won a landscaping project (planting 3,000 seedlings) of the Youth Park as part of the mini-grant competition of the Slovak Embassy. As part of the funding competition of the National Environmental Fund, the City Hall's concept for planting another 3,000 seedlings and improving the Youth Park was selected. To implement current projects, the mayor?s office is forced to purchase seedlings from nurseries, located in the center or north of Moldova. To ensure good survival rate, it is necessary to use plants acclimatized to local conditions, which is impossible due to the lack of a functioning plant nursery on the territory of Ceadir-Lunga.
As part of the project, we plan to create and equip a plant nursery with an area of 2 hectares. The project team involved in the preparation of the application will organize the collection of seeds from trees located on the territory of the municipality in the fall of 2023. After selecting an application for financing, we will additionally purchase seeds and one-year-old seedlings of plants whose seeds we will not be able to collect. Young seedlings acclimatize as they grow and will subsequently become sources of zoned seeds for the nursery. We plan to grow seedlings of trees (oak, acacia, linden, sophora, walnut, thuja, blue spruce, birch, pine, rowan, alder, hawthorn, willow, catalpa, chestnut) and shrubs (hibiscus, tree peony, santolina, barberries, magnolias , spirea, albizia, juniper, serviceberry, sage, tree hydrangea, boxwood, lilac, rhododendron, Eric) and use them for landscaping the municipality and the surrounding area. In the long term, planting these plants will allow us to increase the percentage of afforestation to the minimum recommended (19%), and subsequently ensure a balanced environment. The nursery will be located on the outskirts of the municipality. Ceadir-Lunga, near Lake Zapruda, on a plot of land belonging to the mayor's office.
To implement the project, a partnership agreement will be concluded between the Association of Compatriots ?Vatanda?lar? and the City Hall. As part of the agreement, the mayor's office will undertake the obligation to co-finance the project, provide a land plot, and joint implementation. The nursery will be administered by a municipal enterprise, the founder of which ismunicipal council.
The implementation will involve:
? Secretary of the Association of Compatriots ?Vatanda?lar? - manages the project, controls and ensures effective, prompt and high-quality implementation of all stages;
? Inspector for the protection of the environment and green spaces of the City Hall - assistant manager, participates in the preparation of the application, collecting seeds, prepares documents for approval with the Environmental Inspectorate, plans for landscaping, participates in the implementation of the project and in landscaping activities;
? Ch. City Hall accountant - project accountant, performs financial transactions;
? City Hall agronomist ? participates in the preparation of the application, collection of seeds, coordinates project activities related to the creation of necessary conditions for seeds and seedlings, advises target groups on the features of caring for seedlings;
During the implementation process, a working group will be formed, which will include members of the association of fellow countrymen, city hall specialists, active residents who are passionate about the idea of landscaping. Greening activities will be carried out in partnership with target groups: initiative groups of residents of private sector streets, residents' associations, educational institutions, lake tenants, agricultural producers. Landscaping will be included in schemes for improving the territories of economic agents. For landscaping public land adjacent to households, seedlings will be provided free of charge. Residents and economic agents will take responsibility for their care.
The project corresponds to the priority of the country's environmental strategy and is aimed at preserving and restoring ecosystems and involving the community.
