KUC Tekaranga solar project
The community is located on the outer island with no access to electricity or power. The objective of the project is to provide sustainable power especially with the community having no access to an electrical grid as well as discontinuing use of the fuel powered generator. The basis of this application was especially in light of the expanding community and need for the access to electricity through a solar project. Interests were expressed for the procuring of a larger generator but a suggested and a solar system would be a far more economic and greener way of obtaining power. Additionally there would be lee-way for the expansion of such a system over the years if the community expanded. The area accommodates church services, community meetings and affairs constantly being held so this would be the most optimal location for the project.
The project is envisaged to bring benefits to community members in terms of the electricity provision and capacity building in solar installation and maintenance. The community is committed and responsible to sustain the project in the long term.
