Strengthening the contribution of bees as guardians of biodiversity and addressing the impacts of climate change.
Strengthening the contribution of bees as guardians of biodiversity and addressing the impacts of climate change. The project seeks to promote the sustainable utilization of nature reserves, bolster biodiversity to counteract the impacts of climate change, and elevate beekeeping as a pivotal support for ecosystem services. Its overarching goals include advancing sustainable and economic development, enhancing food security for impoverished communities around the reserves, and creating employment opportunities, particularly for unemployed women and youth. The initiative entails the establishment of 10 new beekeeping projects encompassing a total of 30 beehives, as well as the enhancement of five existing beekeeping projects. Additionally, it involves the cultivation of 10 dunums by 10 beneficiaries with nectar and bee-friendly plants.
To facilitate knowledge dissemination, the project aims to publish a comprehensive guide on wild plants in the targeted area, particularly those rich in nectar. It also focuses on promoting eco-tourism and agriculture in the specified regions, fostering a stronger connection between the local community and natural areas.
Furthermore, the initiative includes a multifaceted awareness campaign on social media to highlight the significance of bees and ecosystem services. To empower women and youth, the project proposes a training program comprising two theoretical and two practical days for 15 individuals to cultivate home gardens with nectar and wild medicinal plants. Another facet involves providing Beekeeping training and capacity building for eight existing project owners and training 15 beginners in the art of Beekeeping.
