Solar Powered Water Treatment Plant
Water and climate change are inextricably linked. Extreme weather events are making water scarcer, more unpredictable, more polluted or all three. These impacts throughout the water cycle threaten sustainable development, biodiversity, and people?s access to water and sanitation. This is why the purpose of this proposal is to request funding for the installation of packaged solar powered water treatment plant with the primary aim of solving the current water crisis in Habu village which is in the Ngamiland District of Botswana. This initiative will help the community adapt to the current climate change impact of shortage of portable water.
Ngamiland, like other parts of the country has over the years been experiencing a downward trend in the amount of rainfall received in the area, and this decline has been attributed to climate change. Although the demand for water is growing exponentially, we should reckon the need for energy-intensive water pumping. This is why the proposed water treatment plant will use solar energy in order to not use other alternative energy means that contribute to carbon emissions in the atmosphere contributing to climate change. Hence the proposed initiative will be contributory to mitigating climate change.
The water treatment plant will includes all parts of the water system supply chain from, raw water pumping facilities, to the raw water pipelines, the treatment facilities, the finished water pumping facilities, and the finished water storage facilities.
