Conserve the Environment and Eco-tourism Develop to increase the community's adaptive capacity to climate change in Koh Rong
The core activities of the Conserve the Environment and Eco-tourism Develop to increase the community's adaptive capacity to climate change in Koh Rong project focus on conserving the environment, natural resources and transforming the conservation area into a potential eco-tourism area to attract, as well as create job and employment opportunities, increase income, help improve community livelihoods and reduce climate change risks. The project will increase cooperation with local authorities and key stakeholders in the implementation of key project activities, such as raising awareness of climate change impacts to 600 families through Vulnerability Reduction Assessment (VRA) and dissemination workshops. Project will ensure that 90 community members (60% women) have increased knowledge and skills on eco-tourism that can provide quality eco-tourism services to attract more tourists to stay longer for increasing their income. To increase employment to the community members, the project will build some basic infrastructure for eco-tourism development, such as 8 guesthouses, 1 bird watching tower (3 meters by 4 meters and 8 meters high) inside the 36 ha of mangrove conservation areas. Moreover, 327.62 hectares of protected forest area (36.77 hectares of mangrove forest and 287.85 hectares forest on the island and waterfalls) have been conserved and turned into beautiful eco- tourism areas. Documentation of lessons learned, and good practices is also part of this project.
