This project is a replication of the successful Community-Based Forest Management project earlier sponsored by the GEF-SGP Nigeria, in Agbado Ekiti community, there is the need to replicate the project in adjacent LGAs. These communities forests have been undergoing an overhauling process of adapting forestry and forest management to become more responsive and relevant to the needs and interests of the rural people in Ekiti Southern districts. The willingness and ability of the rural people to involve themselves in the management of the forests and other tree resources are evidently linked to the gravity of their needs for forest products. This project in Agbado-Ekiti will be replicated in adjacent Aisegba, Ode, and Emure communities around Agbado Ekiti to develop community forest management action plans for their various communities. By expanding the 1.2 Hectare Forest to 3 hectares towards the project, the project will train and establish Community Forest Management Committees (CFMCs) in these adjacent communities with the capacity to prepare Community Forest Management Plans (CFMPs) as well as implement CFMPs/business plans. The project will also empower the CFMCs to engage in discussions and advocacy on Natural Resource Management for their Communities. In order to build resilience, the project will establish Self Help Groups (SHGs) made up of men, women and youths, train them with the capacity to operate revolving funds and to provide micro credits to members thus implementing a sustainable micro enterprise.
