Project Characteristics and Results
Gender Focus
Project addresses women?s needs in priority because it targets individual women?s farmers and their needs for more climate resilient agriculture and creation of business opportunities (such yak wool handicrafts of women weavers? value chain). It also addresses men?s aiming at developing new income opportunities to enable adult male householders to make a living out of yak cheese and medicinal herbs value chains.
Community participation in all steps of the project and exit plan means beneficiaries will gain leadership and management skills and increase their chances of becoming self-sustaining. Agriculture and agroforestry project, if scaled up because of successful pilot project, will include 85% of women as they are communities? main members in charge of agriculture.
Notable Community Participation
Targeting youth as Tibetan doctors and yak herders are mainly youth in the village and addresses the needs of communities as a whole by leading a community reforestation project in Samdo.
