Piloting climate adaptive livelihood solutions through productive use of renewable energy for climate vulnerable hoar communities in Bangladesh
Climate change is likely to impact the haor regions of northeast Bangladesh by the gradual onset of climatic stresses such as rising temperatures, losing aquifer of groundwater, as well as an increased occurrence of disasters? i.e. floods, cyclones, storms surges, and riverbank erosion. Disaster management , response and impact is highly gendered across diverse demands and settings. The needs and priorities in various stages of the disaster cycle are highly differentiated in a social and cultural context showing intersectionality with poverty, livelihoods, health gendered roles and age. Gendered and vulnerable groups often hold vital social knowledge and vast untapped capacity for reducing community risks. Thus, gender & vulnerable group specific initiatives can create an empowering space for diverse community participants to act as an important incubator for ideas and strategies that can be transferred to mainstream interventions.
