Empowered Women: Managing Family Yards and Gardens to Support Balantieng Watershed Preservation
Increasing the role of women in protecting and preserving the Balantieng River Watershed through managing family yards and gardens
Increasing women's skills in managing family yards and gardens to meet household needs and also help preserve river watershed areas
1. At least 100 women have knowledge about managing family yards and gardens.
2. A minimum of 100 women create a land use plan map for their yard and family garden.
3. A minimum of 100 women have basic knowledge about leadership and public communication related to the environment and conservation efforts in the Balantieng Watershed Area.
4. A minimum of 100 women can support activities to preserve the Balantieng River Watershed by managing their yards and family gardens well
1. Training on Land Use of Yards/Family Gardens and Cultivation of Organic Agriculture. (Skills training in managing family yards and gardens and Training and Practice on land use mapping in family gardens which pays attention to environmental and watershed conservation aspects to support environmental conservation activities.
2. Organizational Management Training: Women Farmer Community in the Balantieng Watershed Area. (Encouraging women to develop Women Farmer Communities so that they can exchange information and experience in managing family yards and gardens.
3. Leadership Education and Environmental Communication for Women
Increased awareness of women in maintaining the cleanliness and sustainability of the Balantieng River Watershed and understanding of the importance of continuing to protect this area
1. Women are actively involved in education/extension activities, including waste bank management
2. There is 1 waste bank unit that is standing and functioning
3. There are joint/gotong royong activities for cleaning, structuring and environmentally-based socio-cultural economic activities which are carried out at least once a month
1. Environmental Health Education and Socialization.
2. Waste Bank Management Education and Training.
3. Establishment of a household waste bank as an effort to reduce household waste that pollutes the Balantieng River Watershed.
4. Women and Environmental Clean Action. (Clean Environmental Mutual Cooperation)
Increased interaction and cooperation between residents in maintaining the cleanliness and sustainability of the Balantieng River Watershed.
1. Types of local food on display, a forum for various knowledge and experiences
2. A minimum of 10 women can appear as speakers related to the environment in the "Women Talking about the Environment Forum"
3. Planting new trees (wood trees and fruit trees)
1. Local Food Exhibition and Forum in Balantieng Area.
(Initiated activities that lead to increasing interaction and cooperation between residents, such as environmental clean-up parties or cooking and eating activities together that involve residents).
2. Forum for Women Talking about the Environment.
3. Development of a nursery and planting of wood and fruit trees on an area of 100 ha.
There is an increase in the production of food and horticultural crops in family yards and gardens, so that it can support family food security as well as be a source of economic income.
1. Family yards and gardens have more varied (local) plant varieties, including medicinal plants and ornamental plants.
2. Women's groups gain knowledge or skills in processing local food ingredients.
3. Maximize yards and gardens to meet food needs and market (economic) needs by cultivating with sustainable principles
4. Women are actively involved in harvest activities, post-harvest management and marketing of agricultural products produced from their gardens and fields
1. Group meetings and mentoring
a. Yard Management: Encourage the ownership of plastic pots and buckets, which can be used as planting media by families to grow vegetables, fruit and flowers,
b. discussion on the introduction of new types of plants (Introducing alternative food and horticultural crops for families, which can be planted and maintained in the family yard and garden.
c. Post-Harvest Management and Marketing Assistance: (Positioning women actively in harvest harvesting programs and in creating local markets so as to increase participation, equal distribution of involvement, and increase family income as spending money for home needs.)
2. Marketing training for vegetables and processed agricultural products.
3. Marketing of vegetables and processed agricultural products:

? Leaflet / brochure printing.
Availability of media for public education to encourage the development of a widespread women's movement for the preservation of the Balantieng watershed area.
