Capacity Building for Seaweed Farmers in the Coastal Area of Balangtieng Watershed (Garanta Village, Manjalling, and Dannuang Village)
SAUKANG's general objective is to maintain coastal communities in the Balantieng watershed area through the development of sustainable seaweed cultivation
Specific Objective 1 Strengthening the knowledge and institutional capacity of the seaweed farming community to support improving the quality of seaweed cultivation.
Indicator 1. 100 seaweed farmers participated in assistance to increase seeding capacity, maintenance and post-harvest management)
2. 5 Seaweed farming institutions (Garanta Village, Manjalling, and Dannuang Village) participate in organizational management assistance and training
3. Seaweed farmer institutions have the resources to manage the administration and finances of the institution
4. Seaweed farmer institutions have the ability to build collaborative networks with other parties in improving the quality and productivity of seaweed, active participation of members and administrators as well as equal access for women and men
5. There is support from related parties in developing seaweed cultivation in ponds using a polyculture pattern
6. Seaweed farmers have skills in developing seaweed ponds starting from seeding, maintenance and post-harvest management.
Activities 1. Strengthening community institutions to support improvements in the quality of seaweed cultivation
2. Increased Knowledge & Skills of the seaweed farming community in cultivating and post-harvest processing.
a. Workshop on developing seaweed ponds using a polyculture pattern
b. Training on making & selecting superior & quality seaweed seeds.
c. Creation of pilot locations for seaweed cultivation in ponds
d. Training on techniques for cultivating gracilaria seaweed
e. Seaweed post-harvest processing training
f. Making seaweed drying floors
Special Objective 2 Cultivation Villages as an effort to Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change in Seaweed Farming Communities.
Indicator 1. Seaweed farmers have the capacity to recognize the challenges and disadvantages of seaweed cultivation
2. 100 seaweed farmers took part in climate crisis education
3. 100 people were involved in planting Mangroves with a target of 10 hectares of planting area
4. There is a profile of the seaweed cultivation area which includes farmer data, location area, type of seaweed, number of stretches and production potential
Activities 1. Strengthen the capacity of fishing communities and seaweed farmers in mitigating & adapting to climate change.
a. Village discussions recognized the challenges and disadvantages of seaweed cultivation due to climate change
b. Education & Training for coastal communities in facing the climate crisis
c. Meeting for the formation of a joint action work team for abrasion prevention & the formation of young people to protect the coast
d. FGD planning joint actions for abrasion prevention
e. Creation of a mangrove nursery
f. Joint action to plant Mangroves
2. Seaweed cultivation village as a place for learning together
a. Socialization of Seaweed Cultivation Villages
b. Village Discussion Formation of Seaweed Cultivation Village Working Team
c. Mapping of seaweed cultivation land.
d. Creation of profiles of seaweed cultivation areas for 3 villages.

1. Cultivation area villages as a program product will be synergized with district government programs, in this case the Bulukumba District Fisheries and Maritime Service. In this way, assistance and development of cultivation areas will be continued by instructors from the relevant agencies.
2. The data produced through this program will be a reference in preparing the RPJMDes.
3. Strengthening the youth community by forming a youth community to guard the coast which will then work in three assisted villages, such as beach cleanliness campaigns, coastal ecosystem conservation campaigns, mangrove planting with program support from the village government and district government.
