Adaptive Seaweed-based Coastal Economic Enhancement for Climate Change Mitigation in Lobohede and Lederaga villages in Hawu Mehara sub-district, Sabu Raijua district.
General Objective: Increasing efforts to protect marine-coastal ecosystems and capacity for adaptive seaweed breeding and alternative post-production processing of seaweed for female seaweed farmers.
Specific Objective 1 Improvement of Adaptive Seaweed Cultivation Techniques for sustainable seed availability through controlled selection nurseries
Indicator 1. The existence of an organized group of women seaweed farmers
2. There is an adaptive controlled selection breeding model
3. There is regular assistance and discussions with Women Seaweed Farmers so that they are able to carry out seaweed nurseries on land using a recirculation system
4. Laboratory tests of the type and quality of seaweed resulting from breeding on land and at sea.
Activities 1. Socialization and formation of target groups.
2. Design/design innovation and technology for a controlled selection seaweed nursery model (on land) with a recirculation system
- Designing the tub frame and making the recirculation tub
- Purchase and install supporting tools and materials
- Buy seaweed seeds and tie them in a tub
- Purchase seaweed seeds to be seeded in the sea as control seeds
3. Implementation of seaweed nurseries on land in recirculation tanks, mentoring and regular discussion meetings on adjustments to the nursery process to obtain superior seeds
4. Laboratory tests for seaweed quality. This activity aims to determine the comparison of the quality of the seaweed harvest between the seaweed nursery model on land with a recirculation system and the seaweed nursery that has been practiced by seaweed farmers.
Specific Objective 2 Increase post-harvest seaweed capacity with various selected processing alternatives based on data and innovation
Indicator 1. Identification of seaweed types and post-harvest characteristics (yield and shrinkage).
2. There is an increase in alternative processing capacity for post-production seaweed products
Activity 1. Identify types of seaweed and post-harvest characteristics (yield and shrinkage).
2. Training on value-added processing of post-harvest/production seaweed products.
Specific Objective 3 Develop, strengthen awareness and citizen participation to protect, care for and improve coastal and marine ecosystems.
Indicator 1. There are participatory meetings, discussions, dialogue and collective agreements between parties in the target village
2. There is a community group for coastal & marine guards/supervisors and protection led by women.
Activities 1. Participatory village discussion and dialogue between village residents, village government and stakeholders
2. Establishment of community-based coastal and marine monitoring institutions led by women
Specific Objective 4 Group Mentoring
Indicator: There is routine assistance to the community in the 2 target villages
Routine mentoring activities for communities in 2 target villages. This activity is an effort to ensure that all planned activities can be implemented to achieve project goals. through routine/intensive assistance it is hoped that:
1) Establishment of intense coordination and communication with women seaweed farmers as program targets, with local government, indigenous communities and other stakeholders in the context of implementing program activities;
2) Find out more about socio-cultural conditions and community dynamics that can facilitate or hinder things so that anticipation can be made for project achievement;
3) Post-activity follow-up plans can be coordinated and communicated for implementation;
4) Program achievements can be better recorded, to be reported in the project reporting stages.
Specific Objective 5 Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
Indicator 1. Implementation of routine monitoring
2. Implementation of activity evaluation
3. There is financial reporting, narrative and learning
Activity 1. Monitoring. Monitoring aims to follow up and ensure that suggestions for improvement from the results of joint sharing are implemented by the community
2. Conduct an evaluation. Assess achievement targets according to established indicators to redesign strategies and program implementation flows that are more effective and efficient
3. Coordinating, gathering and making reports. This activity aims to compile a narrative of effective and efficient seeding process activities and financial reports.
