EKF CONGREGATION AND COMMUNITY WATER CISTERN PROJECT, FUNAFUTI-TUVALU
EKF CONGREGATION AND COMMUNITY WATER CISTERN PROJECT, FUNAFUTI-TUVALU
The EKF Pastor?s Residence Water Cistern is a project that has been planned for since the impossibility of fixing up the existing old cistern. This cistern is located behind the pastor?s residence and collecting rainwater from its roof. It is of good size and has a capacity of approximately 30,000 litres. The EKF is seeking fund to build a new cistern which will replace the old one and thus making good use of the space rather than leaving it empty. The roof of the house is quite large and hence a bigger water catchment will be very appropriate during the rainy seasons.
Despite the location of the water cistern, this cistern will be used by the pastor?s family and anyone who might need water especially when the country experiences long droughts and dry seasons. Since there is no other source of water in Tuvalu but rain only, having adequate water catchments and storage facilities is essential and most important. With this concept in mind, having to have a new water cistern would be a very beneficial project to EKF and the whole island community of Funafuti.

Since rain is the only source of fresh water in Tuvalu, and the vital importance of water to all people and livestock and the plants, there had been a good number of projects funded under GEF and other Donors to improve and to increase this aspect from the roof catchments to the storages means such as water cisterns and plastic tanks.
